Team Update

One year after her injury, Taylor is back racing—lining up for a half at the Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Nashville with friends. Nothing flashy, just a meaningful step: running pain-free again. Still a trail runner at heart, but she’ll happily take a Nashville road race when it comes with good company and a fun weekend.
We also met Alice Barnes, owner of The Performance Shift and this place sounds INSANE. We have personally never heard of a space or a health & wellness business with this level of breadth & depth. Think 10,000 sq ft of chiropractic, mental health, group fitness, sports performance, physical therapy, functional medicine, hormone health, pilates, massage, the list goes on! Excited to check it out in-person in a few weeks!

Studio Spotlight: The Performance Shift
Interview with Alice Barnes, Owner
What is The Performance Shift and how is it different from other gyms in Denver?
The Performance Shift is a 10,000 sq ft performance and wellness collective designed for people who want more than just a workout. It brings together sports physical therapy, strength and conditioning, recovery services, and health specialists under one roof to create a truly integrated approach to performance.
What makes it different is simple: fitness, rehab, and recovery are not separated- they are aligned. Most gyms focus on training alone, and most medical systems focus on injury after the fact. The Performance Shift bridges that gap by proactively helping people move better, perform better, and stay healthy long-term.
Our goal is all about longevity, resilience, and optimizing how your body performs at every stage.
We have the following service providers (all under the same roof):
Functional medicine specialist (MD)
On-site nursing staff for IV & bloodwork
Massage therapist
Chiropractor
Dietitian & health coach
Psychologist/mental performance specialists
Pilates & small group training coaches
Sports, orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapists
Breathwork specialists
Who is this for?
The Performance Shift works with a wide range of individuals, with a core focus on:
Youth and high school athletes looking to build strength, reduce injury risk, and gain a competitive edge
Active adults who want to train intelligently and feel strong without breaking down
Performers, especially dancers, who need a specialized and body-aware approach
High performers and professionals who value their health and want a more elevated and customized approach to fitness and recovery
If you care about how you move, how you feel, and how you perform—not just how you look—you’ll fit right in!!
What’s your background and how did you get inspired to build The Performance Shift?
I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist. My background includes working in high-level sports medicine environments, including training at Children’s Hospital Colorado and alongside orthopedic and performance teams in integrated systems.
What inspired me to build The Performance Shift was seeing how fragmented health care and performance can be. Athletes and active individuals were often bouncing between providers: physical therapists, trainers, and doctors without a cohesive plan.
I wanted to create a space where everything works together in real time- where rehab flows into performance, performance supports prevention, and the entire system is built around the individual.
The vision was to create something that feels both clinical and elevated- a place where people feel taken care of, but also pushed to reach their full potential.
What’s the best way for people to find you or try a class?
The best way to get started is to visit our website or Instagram for updates, class schedules, and events.
Offerings include small group performance classes, individual performance and physical therapy sessions, and recovery services.
For those new to the space, starting with a class or an initial consultation is the best entry point so the team can understand your goals and guide you toward the right path.
Once you step into the space, it becomes clear- it’s not just a gym, it’s a shift in how you approach your health and performance and build community in the process!
Editor’s Note: This space and offering is seriously so cool, we (Taylor & Mitchell) have not been able to stop talking about it since we spoke about it with Alice. Really looking forward to checking it out.
