Team Update

Global Running Day looked a little different for us this year. As we continue working through injuries, we traded race bibs for mountain trails and spent the weekend exploring some of the best Colorado has to offer.

We kicked things off by summiting Mt. Elbert, the tallest peak in Colorado, before making our way to Upper and Lower Blue Lakes in the San Juans. If you've never been, add it to your list. The views are every bit as incredible as you've heard. We wrapped up the weekend in Telluride with a hike up Ajax Peak and spent the rest of our time enjoying the Telluride Balloon Festival, which was an absolute blast and something we'd highly recommend experiencing at least once. We're grateful to live in a state with endless opportunities to get outside, challenge ourselves, and appreciate the journey back to full health.

📣 Leisure Hydration confirmed 🔥🔥🔥🔥 & in King Soopers
Leisure Hydration sent us a couple cases of their stuff and we are OBSESSED. We’ve only had the Strawberry Breeze flavor thus far, but we seriously cannot stop cracking open new cans (it’s actually a problem). It’s non-carbonated and we’ve gotta admit it’s a nice switch up from the typical mid-day La Croix. Not to mention each of these things has 700 mg of electrolytes, 10 vitamins & nutrients, magnesium & adaptogens, and most importantly…fake stuff. Grab ‘em online or @ King Soops →

Studio Spotlight: The Performance Shift
Interview with Davis Brendel, Coach

Tell me a little bit about yourself and how you got involved with The Performance Shift.

I'm Davis Brendel, and I've been a strength and performance coach for about 11 years. I met our owner (Alice) roughly three years ago while helping some athletes we had in common, and we quickly realized we shared the same vision. We both believe people need a holistic approach to performance and wellness. Denver has an incredible health and fitness community, and rather than competing against one another, we felt there was an opportunity to bring experts together and collaborate. That's really what The Performance Shift is all about: creating a space where different professionals can work together to help people achieve their goals.

What types of athletes do you typically work with?

I specialize primarily in rotational athletes, including golfers, baseball and softball players, quarterbacks, and lacrosse athletes. Right now I work with everyone from high school golfers to professional athletes on tour and competitive long-drive golfers. That said, my experience extends well beyond rotational sports. I've worked in football performance, Combine preparation, and a variety of athletic populations over the years. Whether you're an elite athlete or someone who simply wants to improve performance and move better, we can build a program around your needs.

What does a typical training session look like?

Every session is individualized. We start with a warm-up based on the athlete's needs and goals for that day. If we're focusing on power development, we may include sprint work, explosive exercises, and strength training. On lighter days, we might emphasize movement quality, change of direction, mobility, recovery, or injury prevention. Everything is built around assessment data and ongoing evaluation. We look at factors like ankle mobility, hip function, shoulder mobility, strength deficits, and power output to determine what will create the greatest improvement. The goal is to identify limitations and develop a program that addresses them while helping athletes perform at their highest level.

How do you use sports science and performance testing?

Sports science is a major part of our approach. We use force plates to analyze movement patterns, identify asymmetries, and measure how athletes produce force. For example, during a squat or jump assessment, we can see whether someone relies more heavily on one side of their body, which can impact both performance and injury risk. We also utilize force frame testing, which allows us to evaluate strength throughout the body on a joint-by-joint basis. By measuring force output and comparing left-to-right symmetry, we can identify areas of weakness or instability and create targeted interventions. These tools help us make informed decisions and provide athletes with objective data throughout their training journey.

What’s the best way for people to find you or book a session?

The easiest way is to schedule a consultation through our website and complete the sports performance questionnaire. From there, we'll learn more about your goals and determine the best path forward. You can also connect with me directly on Instagram at @coachdb_16 and follow The Performance Shift to stay up to date on everything happening at the facility.
