Team Update

Taylor got a massage from Samantha Battaglini at Wholesome Massage Studios in LoHi and had a lovely experience. As training volume continues to ramp up, prioritizing recovery has become just as important as the workouts, and Samantha's thoughtful, personalized approach provided exactly what was needed. From relieving muscle tension and improving mobility to simply creating space to relax and recharge, the session was a great reminder that recovery isn't a luxury, but an essential part of performing and feeling your best. If your body is asking for a little extra attention this summer, Wholesome Massage Studios is definitely worth checking out.

Mitchell finally wrapped up all the 14ers in the Sawatch mountain range, hitting Mt. Massive last Friday and Missouri Mountain, Mt. Oxford & Mt. Belford on Saturday. If you’re looking for a killer 3 for 1 linkup, we highly recommend hitting MOB!

We’ve officially handed out all 5,000 copies of the DNVR FIT Guide across Denver! It’s been incredible seeing the guides pop up all over Wash Park, Cherry Creek, Platte Park, and beyond. A huge thank you to all of the coffee shops, studios, gyms, and local businesses that helped us get them into the hands of Denver’s fitness and wellness community. And once the print run is gone, the best way to stay connected to everything happening in Denver fitness and wellness will be through this newsletter.

Event Spotlight: The World’s Toughest Mile
Interview with Eric Hinman, Founder

What is The World’s Toughest Mile and how did you come up with the idea?

It’s a one-mile challenge completed on a track: one lap of broad jumps, one lap of lunges, one lap of bear crawls, and one final lap running. I came up with the idea back in 2019 while driving through the mountains. I came across a beautiful track and thought, "I want to do the hardest mile I've ever done." At the time, I made it even harder. One of the laps was a handstand walk. I tried it on the spot and it was absolutely brutal. I didn't think much of it afterward, but a few years later I told some friends about it and realized most people couldn't handstand walk a full lap. That's when I replaced that section with a run and started bringing the challenge to group events. Over time, we began hosting it with various brands and through my Founders Only community. People loved it. What started as a personal challenge evolved into something much bigger—a community experience built around doing hard things together.

You often talk about doing hard things together. What have you learned about community from watching hundreds of people suffer through this event side by side?

One of my favorite things about this event is that the person who finishes last often gets more cheers than the person who finishes first. That says a lot about the culture that's formed around it. No matter how fit someone is, everyone is overcoming the same obstacle. There's a tremendous amount of respect between participants because everyone understands how difficult the challenge is. People genuinely want to see others succeed. I've come to believe that some of the strongest friendships and deepest relationships are formed when people go through something difficult together. That's what makes this event so special. Everyone is sharing the same experience, encouraging one another, and celebrating each other's victories.

Colorado has become a hub for endurance sports, HYROX, trail running, CrossFit, and wellness culture. What makes the Denver/Boulder community a natural fit for The World's Toughest Mile?

I've lived in Colorado since 2017, and it's become home. We have an incredible network of friends here, along with strong relationships across the local fitness community, so Denver and Boulder felt like the obvious place to grow this event. What makes this area unique is the culture. People here genuinely enjoy challenging themselves. Whether it's trail running, HYROX, CrossFit, cycling, or mountain sports, there's a shared appreciation for pushing limits. From the beginning, we envisioned The World's Toughest Mile as a way to bring people from different gyms and fitness communities together. It's not just about competition—it's about creating opportunities for people to meet, connect, and challenge themselves alongside others who value growth and resilience.

What do you hope the average participant takes away from crossing the finish line?

I hope they leave realizing they're capable of much more than they thought. Maybe The World's Toughest Mile becomes the catalyst that inspires someone to sign up for an Ironman, run their first marathon, tackle a 100-mile race, or pursue another big goal they've been putting off. So much of what's possible in life expands when we're surrounded by people doing extraordinary things. I've personally leveled up because of the people I've chosen to surround myself with. In my friend group, it's normal to train for an Ironman, run the Leadville 100, or bike 100 miles. Being around people who pursue ambitious goals changes your perception of what's possible. Most importantly, I hope participants finish thinking, "That was really hard but I did it." That's a powerful feeling that carries into every other area of life.

Looking five years ahead, do you see The World's Toughest Mile as a race, a wellness festival, or something bigger?

We absolutely want it to become something bigger than a race. There will always be a competitive element, but our vision is to create a large-scale wellness festival centered around community, challenge, and connection. We want people to come together, do something difficult, meet amazing people, and walk away feeling empowered. Long term, we'd love to create an experience that's part athletic challenge and part celebration. Imagine completing the event and then spending the day enjoying wellness activations, fitness experiences, food, recovery, and live entertainment. We draw a lot of inspiration from events like Diplo's Run Club, where fitness and culture come together in a memorable way.

At its core, though, the mission will remain the same: bringing people together through shared challenges.

What was your favorite part of the event in Boulder?

Without question, it was seeing people come together. I love creating opportunities for people to connect, and it was incredible to watch longtime friends, gym communities, and complete strangers all sharing the same experience. There was so much energy throughout the day. One of my favorite moments was watching participants finish each lap, especially the broad jump lap, which is notoriously difficult. You could see people digging deep, encouraging one another, and celebrating every milestone along the way. Watching that excitement, support, and sense of accomplishment unfold in real time is exactly why we created this event in the first place.
